Smithy and Carpenter’s Workshop c. 1900

The Old Smithy (B-54) was built as a forge for the Royal Greenlandic Trading Department (now KNI), and dates back to the end of the 19th or early 20th century. The building was later extended with a carpenter’s workshop. The smithy is a stone building, and currently houses a display of a smith’s tools, testifying to Sisimiut’s history as a place of industry. The old carpenter’s workshop is still in use, serving nowadays as the museum’s workshop.
